Student journalism at as large a university as the University of Michigan is a brilliantly unique thing because, at any point, you have a collection of students, hailing from all over the world, dedicated to reporting on Ann Arbor for Ann Arbor. At The Statement, our goal is to always, at the end of the day, tell stories that have some anchor in this city and this university.
This week, we flip that.
The dispatch edition is a collection of stories from Statement writers who, for one reason or another, find themselves somewhere other than Ann Arbor. For some, they’re writing from their home during summer break. Others are reporting back from study abroad trips and personal travels. From Delhi, Seoul, Rome, New York City and Puerto Rico, all the way back to Ann Arbor, we are thrilled to report of the goings on across the world, and, ultimately, how it connects back here.
